They are cruiser pedals with no grip. In the event you plan on riding this bicycle at slow speeds...possibly barefoot...this won't be an issue for you. After much research and soul searching I opted to go with the Diamondback Maravista. Absolutely love this bicycle and could not be happier with my purchase. The ride is smooth, and comfortable. My only complaints are the following: Beyond those minor criticisms, this is a great bicycle. The frame is comparatively light, and the parts are solid (they are actually better than a number of the other major brand hybrids I looked at within the same cost point). And, this bicycle is absolutely stunning in gloss black. - set of screws for mounting water bottles and other accessories.
